Former Minnesota Attorney General. Mr. Hatch served as Attorney General of the State of Minnesota from 1999 to 2007. As Attorney General, Mr. Hatch served as the State’s chief legal officer, representing the State of Minnesota and the public in a vast array of legal matters. Mr. Hatch was a “working” Attorney General who developed a national reputation for his accomplishments in numerous fields, including health care, insurance, real estate and mortgages, banking and financial services, consumer protection, and regulatory enforcement.
Former Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce. From 1983 to 1990, Mr. Hatch served as Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Commerce. He was the primary regulator of the insurance, banking, financial, securities, and real estate industries in Minnesota. Mr. Hatch earned a reputation as a “hands on” regulator with deep knowledge of the industries he regulated.
As both Attorney General and Commerce Commissioner, Mr. Hatch developed a national reputation for his bulldog advocacy and tenacity and his winning results.

Mr. Hatch previously served on a number of corporate boards of directors, including: Chairman, Chesapeake Life Insurance Company (Baltimore, Maryland); Chairman, First United Insurance Company (Phoenix, Arizona); Director, All Nation Insurance Company (Saint Paul, Minnesota); Director, Centra Benefit Services, Inc. (Dallas, Texas); Director, NAU Insurance Company (Anoka, Minnesota); Director, Mountain States Insurance Company (Anoka, Minnesota); and Director, MidwestOne Bank (Iowa).
Private Attorney. Prior to his public service as Attorney General, Mr. Hatch was the founding partner of a Minneapolis boutique law firm specializing in complex insurance, financial, health care, legal, and regulatory matters. Mr. Hatch has represented, advised, and counseled hundreds of companies, organizations, and individuals in litigation, transactional, and regulatory compliance matters. His clients benefit from his breadth of experience, candid counsel, and pragmatic approach. He has appeared on behalf of clients in state and federal courts in Minnesota and before state regulatory agencies and administrative tribunals.
Mr. Hatch graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. He previously served as Chairman of the Midwest Region of the National Association of Attorneys General.
